From the opening montage of character establishing clips to the mock serious role reversal ending, Boomerang is a fast paced production that is by turns funny, arousing and red hot.
The backstory here is that Alex Carrington and Talvin DeMachio are running a storefront Dream Jobs operation in which they interview a number of good looking 20 something guys responding to their newspaper ad for well paid but extremely vague jobs in exotic foreign locales. This process involves a probing physical exam followed by a request for a cum sample. The nonlinear structure of the video skips back and forth from the latest interviewee's private life to his interview with Dream Jobs manager Carrington to his session with Dr. Corrina's ever roaming, ever probing gloved hands. The real purpose is to make hidden camera videos of the interviewees jacking off while charging each guy $100 for the privilege - an efficient and voyeuristic scam.
Talvin DeMachio receives first billing and first nude screen appearance, showing his unusually well defined and beautifully proportioned physique, as the voyeur Dr. Corrina. In his white coat and ever ready with gloves and lube, his character has the job of convincing each interviewee of the legitimacy of a cum shot request and manages to do so while breezily saying "thankkkk you, have a nice fantasy", handing them their cum cup as he departs to his video monitor to watch the unwitting interviewee try to produce the requisite cum sample. Thankfully, DeMachio has none of those trendy piercings or large tattoos that too many performers sport today, not realizing how dated they'll look in a few years.
The first extended scene features Steve O'Donnell as the frustrated lover, pining for attention from Sam Dixon. Dixon appears to brush him off while preparing for work, but quickly returns home to give the needy O'Donnell the ass stuffing he craves.
Next up is DeMachio's Dr. Corrina in an exam scene with K.C. Hart, which is interspersed with a beautifully filmed waterfall sex scene between Hart and Dany Brown, who makes a welcome comeback to video after several years of retirement, looking very good and virtually unchanged. Hart shows some comic talent here too, spreading the wrong set of cheeks until corrected by DeMachio.
Third is a Eduardo-DeMachio exam scene that is played dead seriously by the furry chested Eduardo and with just the right degree of archness by DeMachio.
Then we have Bud Sudduth's exam by DeMachio, which is marked by his character's growing suspicion that something isn't quite right, and confirmed when he discovers the hidden camera and Dr. Corrina secretly jerking off in response to Sudduth's own J/O session to produce the cum sample.
Finally there is a threeway between Demachio, Carrington and Sudduth in which Sudduth takes charge after discovering the scam, spanks Demachio and Carrington a little too enthusiastically and demands that both suck his dick as a prelude to a really scorching fuck fest between DeMachio and Carrington. Veteran performer and former marine Carrington, who has had a career in porn nearly as long as Chad Knight, looks very good and delivers both his lines and his cock convincingly.
In a welcome change of pace from the strict top/bottom mentality, there are flip flop scenes in almost every pairing except for DeMachio-Carrington and K.C. Hart-Brown. To his credit, director Zen goes for playing against type and subverting the predictable stereotype by having the climactic last scene involve 5'6" DeMachio top the 6'2" Carrington in an energetic fuck that has Carrington groaning in anticipation of each of DeMachio's big dicked thrusts. This is a particularly well done scene where the genuine chemistry between the performers is clearly evident and helps to lift this video above the pack of also-rans with a strong finish that includes Carrington and DeMachio being locked out of their own office by Sudduth, who has discovered their hidden camera scam and taken over the business. The final scene includes DeMachio "noticing" the camera for the first time and saying "can't you see I'm naked?..it's no free show!" in a cool freeze frame.
The performers are shaven only on their balls and around their assholes, with everything else natural as it should be. Combined with the understated roseate-tinted lighting, this makes for a very naturalistic looking videography without the harsh lighting or excessive makeup that so often mars lesser efforts.
Directed and edited by Michael Zen, this has a slightly hurried look and feel to it, as if there was little time for retakes or script rewrites. This does not detract from the video's overall cocksure performances or technical polish. Script writing credit goes to Dak King, who is also listed as "Zen's third eye".
This is one of those dialogue-heavy videos that is heavily dependent on the acting skills of its cast. Unlike lesser efforts, everyone here is up to the task and is clearly having a ball. The fact that that there is no "filler" between the tightly integrated point/counterpoint structure is a big help that also sets this video above its less well made competitors, which so often feature wooden dialogue and endlessly repeated scenes.
All the performers deliver competent or better acting, with the best line reading and dramatic delivery by DeMachio, who gives his Dr. Corrina character a real sarcastic polish, including what looks like his impromptu humming of the "I Dream of Jeannie" theme while giving digital anal exams. This scene is played repeatedly between DeMachio and K.C. Hart, Eduardo, and Sudduth to increasingly comic effect.
The only notably bad performance is Bud Sudduth, who looks like he tasted something sour in nearly every scene he's in and exudes a smarmy and adversarial impression - possibly something that carries over into real life? He is also the only truly unattractive performer.
This is a fast moving video with tongue firmly planted in cheek, spiced with excellent sexual performances in every pairing. It marks the return of Dany Brown in a secondary but solid supporting performance, and K.C. Hart shows he can be a convincing top. The standout actor is clearly Talvin DeMachio, who combines finely tuned mock serious acting with a sexually dynamic performance.
Boomerang belongs in the collection of everyone who appreciates real acting amid a satirical plotline along with enthusiastic and well-matched sexual pairings. Director Michael Zen has succeeded again in delivering a well above average production in this follow up to his excellent MATADOR, also for All Worlds. Highly recommended. ---- Kent Barclay
