I have to begin this review by saying how excited I was to see this particular title up for grabs for previewing. That said, I?m terribly sorry to report that A Night At The Adonis left me wanting more; and it just goes to show that if your expectations are too high, you?ll be in for a terrific disappointment.
Jack Deveau was the director, and he selected a handsome cast of sexy men, Jack Wrangler and Roger being at the top of the list. Most of the action takes place in the now-defunct Adonis Theatre in Manhattan?s Hell?s Kitchen; a place I?m proud to report I frequented when I was a Manhattan-ite back in the mid-80s. So imagine seeing this film when the theatre was at the height of its notoriety.
The interior never changed, nor did the activities in the theatre!
The plot is simple: When Jack Wrangler can?t get it on with his co-worker; he saunters into the Adonis for a little action. He and a bevy of other ?types? watch the films, get hard, hot and bothered, and then go off into the balcony or other dark corners of the theatre for uninhibited man sex. Sadly, the sex isn?t all that exciting. There?s a good scene between Roger and his hairdresser, and a rousing orgy in the restroom that?s worth another look, simply for the fact that RUSH (poppers) is used for stimulation!
I think too much of the thin story and silly dialogue preempted what could have been a now vintage film about the mere goings on in this notorious meeting place.
The film stock is old, thus making the transfer to DVD grainy and shadowy. Still, when the heat is there, it?s hot.
