Never one to make porn just for porn's sake, Al Parker has always set his films against backdrops that are recognizable and relevant to gay men and "the life," and Games is no exception. Set during the first Gay Games held in San Francisco, (and using actual footage from the event), it depicts the story of the games that went on behind the scenes as well.
The opener is classic Al Parker. Nothing still shocks and arouses more than the sight of a butch-looking, All-American, prototypical male not only swallowing a large dick, but doing it as if he were born to it. Just by sheer enjoyment of his work, it seems that Al set the benchmark that his co-stars strove to reach for as well, which may explain the remarkable performances that he and director Steve Scott managed to get out of every performer in damn near every film that Surge ever produced.
Al is shooting a layout, (when the layout isn't shooting all over him), when he gets a call to cover the Games for a special edition of the magazine he's working on. Suffice it to say here that at certain points, the film dovetails into another plotline, coming back to Al periodically until the two stories are tied together at the end.
As Al's tale continues, we get to see him pick up young and horny hitcher Russ Franklin, who recognizes Al in a hard, uh, heartbeat, and when Al asks if he'd like to "pull over," it's the stuff that so many of our wet dreams are made of. The cumshots here are especially exceptional.< P>Anyone who knows anything about the history of porn and porn stars will feel the chill of prophecy that the next scene carries with it. Waking from his stupor, Leo/Jeff sees that he's close to missing his plane, he swipes Rogers' keys, and guns the bike in the direction of the airport when he meets with a bad accident. Not more than a few years later, Leo Ford's stellar career in porn would be cut short due to a fatal motorcycling accident.
In the hospital, nurse Shannon instructs orderly Ben Barker about the doctor's instructions for the unconscious swimmer. Ben acknowledges, but in the meantime he's there to prep patient Brian Nichols for surgery. Now this being Ben Barker, you know what kind of bedside manner to expect, and Brian certainly looks anything but unhappy about having Ben deep-throat and ride his big javelin. Ben goes for broke as he conducts his own marathon relay, while the Games continue in the background on TV.
Later on, as Ben comes back to check on Leo/Jeff, and gets a glimpse of the goodies he's carrying in that big basket, and off he goes to Daydream-Land, or is that DICKdream Land? It seems a little unethical to fuck a patient when's he in critical condition, but hey, it's a fantasy, so he and Leo are entitled. And who knows? Perhaps it's the therapy that this patient really needs.
Meantime, Al has learned of the accident from Johnny and David McCabe, (who himself would go on to direct films of unfortunately inconsistent quality, after serving as p.a. for Al and Company.) This apparently won't stop Al from featuring Leo/Jeff in the magazine, as the film closes with a healed hero back in action, mixing it up with porngod Al like he doesn't give a damn about missing the Games. But with a prize like the balls-deep fuck he receives from Mr. Parker, maybe he came out the biggest winner of all.
Games is yet another four-star entry in the Surge Studios canon. (Note: This is the Bijou Video version of Jocks Video Pack #32 with the same scenes & same stars.)
